In the last few weeks I've come to realize that selecting a watch depends as much if not more on what phone app it is designed to use.
My 1st was a Mgalo Y91, Fitbit style fitness tracker using H Hand app. Turns out it is a winner in some ways, primarily Sleep, Heart Rate, Heart Rate Variability and it has an ECG function. Downside is only displaying one type of data on the screen at a time. Still, it is my Go To for sleep wear for the data I can view in the AM.
My 2nd was a LIGE BW00264E and DaFit app. I LOVED the watch but couldn't stand the app, it has too many shortcomings to be beneficial to me. I reluctantly am returning that watch because of the app.
This AGPTek LW11C09 is highly rated in a lot of reviews so I ordered this watch to replace #2. For daily wear I prefer a round style (no corners to snag on storm cuffs or my face if sleeping with it on my wrist) and I wanted to see more data at a glance.
To a large extent this watch fulfills that need, though it is not perfect. The app does offer a variety of watch faces but the app developer has far too many funky styles to really suit my needs or taste. There are 2 watch faces that I would prefer to use but both suffer from a real lack of effective use of available dial real estate. I have settled on one that has the data I want but could use some changes to make it more readable. Still, the ability to change watch faces is something that I appreciate in the hope that one face will suit my needs.
I think my ideal daily wear watch will be more of a health tracker than a fitness tracker. I am most interested in seeing real time pulse, steps (without having to start a specific exercise session), distance walked rather than kcal, weather data if the watch supports that function and a battery charge indicator that is visible without having to swipe to see that state of charge.
This watch uses the FitCloudPro app which is not too bad, it gives me most of the essential data on the app but none of the dial faces quite fit my needs. One drawback to the app is the developers fixation on orange as the dominant color scheme. The sleep chart in particular would benefit from different colors to represent the stages of sleep rather than shades of orange. It is also not as comprehensive in analyzing sleep as the H Hand app and Y91 watch are in this regard. Still, most of the fonts on the app are large enough to easily read and thankfully it uses black fonts instead of the oh so common grey that a lot of apps and PC programs seem to favor these days. Couple grey with tiny fonts and that equals a lot of eye strain at my age.
Conclusion: – so far a much more useable combo than the LIGE/DaFit proved to be so provisionally a keeper. Battery usage so far seems better than the Y91 and H Hand, but it should be since this watch has a larger battery. I am still playing extensively with the LW11C09 and app but it looks like 3 – 4 days of heavy use without charging so when the novelty wears off a week between charging looks likely.
Having said that, I just got delivery on another LIGE watch that uses the JYouPro app. As soon as it charges up I will be test driving that pair to see if it better meets my needs.
Stay tuned.
